Does anybody know of a good place to swim horses? We have been looking at some state parks with horse trails, but I can't find one with a horse-friendly lake, pond, or creek as well.

We have been looking at some state parks with horse trails, but I can't find one with a horse-friendly lake, pond, or creek as well. of the parks in Central PA that have water do not permit riding in the water because the water is part of a water supply system. Rives are the best place to try but the Delaware and the Susquehanna are shallow most of the year and when they are high the currents can be a problem. There are "swimming holes" along parts of the main creeks. That may be the best bet in Central PA. The boat launch in North Middletown park is deep on the Conodoguinet Creek. I have taken horses there.

By the way, all horses cannot swim. The Army had a training protocol for sorting out new horses to see if they could swim. I will look for it in my manuals and post it if I find it. The funny thing is I remember the first line of it went something like, "Assemble the best swimmers in your troop", the idea being they wanted men who could swim well on the new horses in case the horses drown.
