We have over a foot of snow and at least that much more coming. Normally I'd be out plowing a half mile of driveway and more, but I'm not because I gave up the farm and I must say this is the best feeling about the farm I have had since leaving. I am sitting at my computer looking out the window having a hot cup of coffee. I'm not going anywhere. Feels kind of weird actually, but I will get used to it.

We have about 3 feet, and it's still snowing hard. We've been out shoveling several times, and will be again. We heard from a neighbor that the snow plows may not get to our street until Tuesday. Laura and Ethan were out on our lower flat roof shoveling. One of the first things out of Laura's mouth this morning was "I can't wait to ride in the snow." That was before she knew quite how much snow we were getting. I thought of you this morning and wondered if you were enjoying city life without all that plowing! We made snow angels, snow wrestling, "wading" through hip-deep snow and in general having fun in between all the shoveling. We're getting ready to walk (more like wading - great workout!) down to the "Bubble" to see what it looks like after all the snow - no diving, though!

d out last night. Should be warm today. Hopefully there will be a big melt.
Jacki, one of the things that used to motivate me to go out in the snow storms to plow over and over was knowing that the kids would be off school the next day and if I got the driveway plowed, they could come and ride. We had some good snow day rides.

Those were some great times! Laura will miss them. Actually, she's getting dressed to go to the barn now - but riding alone is not the same.

Mac is not the steadiest horse on his feet in good footing, so we figure it's a foregone conclusion that he WILL slide. Laura thought this would be a great opportunity to show him HOW to slide without getting hurt. However, no sooner had she gotten on him when the owner of the barn came running out and told us not to let her leave the arena, that it was dangerous, and did we not know that there had been 40" of snow? Since it was her property and we had no wish to lose riding privileges, Laura got off him and mostly walked him around a corner of the arena where there's a little bit of a slope. She got on him bareback and walked him in the same area after they had made "tracks". Not much opportunity for training, but she had fun playing in the snow, and Mac seemed to enjoy it as well. I emailed the owner of the property to explain that Laura is a seasoned field rider experienced in riding in all kinds of slippery footing and to assure her that we had the horse's safety in mind, but I'm not sure she will understand. I guess we'll find out next week if she still has a horse to ride! (I'm fairly certain she has contacted the horse's owner by now; she seemed pretty "freaked out".)
Attached is a video of Laura sliding Blaze down a steep, loose, rutted trail down to the creek, something she did regularly.

No snow here... Just a lot of mud and this is good considering the drought in California. It is so very nice to see green hills once again. I could not view the video of Laura for some reason?
